Mix and match bridesmaids

18 Jan

I was lucky enough to attend the wedding of two amazing people on the weekend. The wedding was filled with love and good times plus there was so. much. style. This was all down to the talented bride (Maddy) and I’m very excited that I’ll be able to share their wedding on One lush day once the pics come through. But one element that I really liked was that the four bridemaids wore two different styles of dress – 2 in multi-coloured Zimmermans and 2 in beige dresses which synced in well with the multi-colour.

It worked so well together and has inspired me today to search for some other mix and match bridesmaid combos – some of which might require a bit of bridesmaid confidence but I think they’d look hot, stylish and give them a bit of added personality. What I love most about these dresses is that they’re not very “bridesmaidy” so your bridesmaids will definitely be able to wear them again.

Primary colours add some pop - if your bridesmaids are really brave, these three pretties would look awesome with some red lipstick!

A little dash of fire from Sandro

Add some water from Diane Von Furstenburg

And swirl it around with some luscious lemon from Michelle Mason

Add some sparkle and bling with these sequined numbers - I think that the longer sleeves on the silver and gold dresses helps to balance things out

Alannah Hill

Vince

Alice & Olivia

And back to Alannah Hill for a show-stopping purple number so appropriately named “watch me glitter”!!

Mix up your prints – don’t worry if your prints don’t match when you can draw together colours. I’d be sandwiching the 2nd dress between two of the 1st dress

You can’t go wrong with this DVF classic

Pair it up with the “black swan” from Thurley – I love the gathered details which are a bit easier to see if you jump on the Thurley site

Be daring in style combining some bad-ass black with a little pretty pink

Start with this sexy DVF backless number

Add a splash of shock with Vivienne Westwood

Love this J Crew metallic jacquard dress. The texture in this dress is awesome – it almost looks like a fish skin!

And close it off with this edgy frock from Sass and Bide

Walk like an Egyptian with these glamourous maxis

This photo (and the shoes – eek!!!) doesn’t do this Thurley gown justice but I saw it on a girl at a wedding recently and it is DIVINE (probably helps that said girl is also divine but I think the gown deserves a 2nd look too)

Pair it with this emerald green show-stopper from Alice by Temperley

Got the dresses but stuck for the perfect shoes? Try Shoes of Prey where you can design shoes in the colours and styles that you need to complement your mix-matched bridesmaid dresses. Here’s a little post I wrote about them a few months ago – yes, yes I have a business crush!

Bridesmaid tea dresses by Naughty Shorts

4 Oct

Today’s little pretties come all the way from Dunsborough, Western Australia (no, I don’t know where that is either). WA gal Bec Williams from Naughty Shorts spends her time making gorgeous tea dresses for lucky ladies round the country. She combines bright 1950s fabrics with sweet silhouettes to make custom dresses for all sizes. And the best part is that they’re totally affordable, so it won’t hurt too much if you walk away with more than one!

I think these dresses would be perfect for bridesmaids at a casual, fun wedding. It would be so pretty to have your bridesmaids in completely different colours and patterns. They’d look lovely paired with belts, cardigans, sandles or boots and stockings. There’s nothing I like more than bridesmaid dresses that can be re-worn which these most definitely can.

Bec has hundreds of fabrics for you to choose from, you can check them all out on her blog here and here. I’ve also picked out a few of my faves below.

So, how can you get your hands on one of these dresses? As Bec is only one person, she can only make a certain amount of dresses. So every Thursday at 9am WA time, she adds spots to her Etsy site for lucky ladies to snap up. Makes it all just that little bit more exciting! Check out some examples below.
